It is a drink made from dried and grounded leaves of Paraguayan holly. It is widely used in the countries of South America: Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay and in the southern regions of Brazil.

The traditional method of preparing and use is as follows: any tank (cup, mug, glass, armuda) is filled with grass mate for two-thirds of the volume.  Dip a tube with a filter (bombilla) in it and pour a certain amount of water with a temperature of about 75 °C. Water seeps through the thickness of the grass and extracts the substances contained in it. You can immediately start to drink. In the process of drinking water is added several times.
